Speedo proud supporter of the 2022 RunSwim Coogee Aquathlon

Finally, and after three previous attempts, the inaugural RunSwim Coogee Aquathlon took place on Sunday 1st May 2022. It was a spectacular day and an incredible event. The sun shone, the ocean sparkled, and a sea of people descended on Coogee.

Although we are well versed at running large scale events like the CIC with numbers close to 2,000 entrants, the RSC is very different being spread across 3 bays and is highly complex to manage and control and required over 80 volunteers on the day.

We had an incredible 508 registrations on the day and are sincerely grateful to all who enabled the event to go ahead. We are extremely thankful to the army of volunteers and a huge thank you to our many new event sponsors: Speedo Australia (and Olympian James Hickman as starter), Recoverie, The Runners Shop, Hoka, The Wright Physio, Randwick Council and Chish & Fips for providing fresh fruit for the competitors and volunteers.

5 Professional photographers captured incredible images along the entire course, in the water and from the air. 3,500 images taken of competitors were then available for purchase on GeoSnapShot.

We have had people come from regional locations and even interstate who found us online and flew to Sydney to participate. One particular example came from a couple who travelled from Tallebudgera Valley, Qld to compete:

“Today’s event was awesome! A group of us from the Gold Coast came down to participate and we all agreed it was a fabulous day and it incapsulated everything that we love - a fun yet challenging run, ocean swimming and the extra adventure element of the swimming with shoes on. We are regular ocean swimmers but this event was next level and we loved it! Thank you to all of the organisers and helpers, your work was very much appreciated. We will be back next year with others in tow! Please let this be a new annual event for the calendar.”

The event was the talk of the Eastern Suburbs and we received many glowing reports from participants. While many were ocean swimmers, the entrants were overall a different demographic to the Coogee Island Challenge and the atmosphere on Goldstein Reserve at the build-up to the start was electric.
