“I’ve had the best times of my life being involved in the snowboarding community and that fulfillment in itself is my biggest achievement.”

Andy James Snowboarder

One glance at Andy James on a snowboard and you’d never believe he didn’t grow up immersed in the sport. Raised in the southeast suburbs of Melbourne, Andy first tried snowboarding at the age of 14 and admits it wasn’t love at first sight. In fact, he contemplated switching to skiing right then and there.

Thankfully he persevered, and when the structure of university life became too monotonous, Andy tapped into his creative side and let snowboarding lead the way forward.

Andy’s snowboarding is poetry in motion. The combination of his effortless style and incredibly strong work ethic have seen him progress into one of Australia’s most highly regarded riders. Andy is best known for his magic touch on any piece of steel, and whether in the park or on the street, he has rightfully made a name for himself as the country’s no. 1 rail guy.

Andy has been a part of world-renowned jam-style competitions including Holy Bowly, Bush Doof, DIYX STRT JAM series and Superpark, and has featured in countless video parts filmed all over the globe.

His snowboarding is beautiful to watch in any landscape, but Andy’s impact on the scene extends beyond the fluidity of his riding. His commitment to the snowboarding community and the next generation of riders is a major part of his passion, and there’s no doubt he will continue to make a significant impact on the culture of Australian snowboarding.

“The mountains are really my happy place. When I am in the mountains all my other cares and worries seem to not matter and I feel completely relaxed. What excites me most about skiing is that there are no rules. There's no right and wrong way to ski down a mountain, you just do what feels best for you.”
